Shack in the Mountains

This past weekend we were lucky to hang with some good friends in Fernie...Jill, Jack, the kiwis and I were happy that "the shack in the mountain" Bobber referred to still managed to have a few of the necessary comforts...

"uncle" BOB...With his new Lulu Lemon pants, he's showing a more sensitive side. He left Vancouver a changed man.

Jo's "fat free" truffles...Bobber is definitely not going for the grapes.

Too many beers on board, a heavy breakfast, an injured kiwi, and a 4 month old in the crew pretty much spelled out that our exercise would be limited to a walk-about. What a great one though.

What post wouldn't have a few token Jack photos!

Back-log of photos...

Here's a little collection from the past few weeks...this is about .005 % of the photos I've actually taken with the SLR...Jack is going to hate me.

Mom and dad, hanging with Jack as his parents shred up the Atlantic

It's a wonder they have a board that can float that ass...

Jill...it's like she had a water-birth or something. She just belongs in, or on water.

A Full Saturday

An early rise on Saturday allowed Kyle to join Karl and I on a trip to an unknown peak accross from HERO's KNOB. Kyle, no stranger to fitting a lot into a day, managed to rip some turns, prune a spruce tree (see below), vaccuum the living room, and man the barbeque at his son's first birthday...Karl and I were but mere spectators.

Kyle, just following a mix-up with the tree behind him. What you don't see is the wreath he produced in the process.

Karl. kind of looks like he's telemarking...some day he'll find the force.

4 Days of the White Stuff

Last weekend the plan was to hit Jumbo for 4 days. As the mountain gods would have it, we were given lots of snow...too much. As the snow piled high, so did the avalanche danger and plans would have to be changed. The Maudie family once again played host to a group of stinky skiiers....

The Warm-up: K-Country

CRANNY

Sled or die...sled and die?
Just after our first run at a cat skiing operation outside of Fernie, we were flagged down by one of the operators to help an injured sledder. He had decided it would be fun to race up a 50 degree slope, with a cornice above, in high avalanche danger..what do you think happened?

Jen putting her emerg skills to use on the young sledder who mashed his tibia/fibula in his very own class III avalanche.

You might think that this was one of the sledders...no, that's Cranny's very own Alan Maudie. Not only does he take a mean photo, but he looks damn good in them as well.

Al, out of his sledder digs--but once again, lookin' smooth

Has anyone ever landed a 270 degree spin?
